Sterility Produced in Mice by Deuterium Oxide

Description: Sterility in C{sub 57} and Swiss mice has been produced by substituting D{sub 2}O for a part of the drinking water. The effective range lies between 5% and 30% D{sub 2}O. It appears that the effect is greater in C{sub 57} males than females and that the size and viability of the litter is affected.

The Effect of Habitat Inhomogeneities and Fragmentation on Population Density and Time to Extinction

Description: We present a study, based on simulations with SERDYCA, a spatially-explicit individual based model of rodent dynamics, on the connection between population persistence and the presence of inhomogeneities in the habitat. Description: Carbon tetrachloride has been used extensively within the DOE nuclear weapons facilities. Rocky Flats was formerly the largest volume consumer of CCl4 in the United States using 5000 gallons in 1977 alone (Ripple, 1992). [Completion of the dog toxicity project at the University of Utah: statistical comparison]

Description: Radium (Ra) toxicity in dogs is a cornerstone for the evaluation of plutonium (Pu) toxicity, as it provides a possible link to Pu toxicity in humans. Survival regression models with covariates were used to estimate the risk to survival and the frequency and latency of bone tumor development. It appears for Ra that dose-rate is a more significant contributor to non-survival and bone tumors than is skeletal dose.
