Leaching and Precipitation Tests on Grants Ores

Description: Leaching tests were run on two samples from the Grants area in New Mexico. Uranium extractions of 94 per cent were obtained by leaching Sample 6-1 with solutions containing 240 lbs. of Na2CO3 and 60 lbs. of NaHCO3 per ton and by leaching Sample 6-2 with 270 lbs. of Na2CO3 and 180 lbs. of NaHCO3 per ton. Cyclic tests were completed using caustic precipitation of the leach liquor.

Zirconium Pilot Plant Research and Development Progress Report

Investigations on Wings With and Without Sweepback at High Subsonic Speeds

Description: Drag tests at zero lift have been made at Mach numbers from 0.7 to approximately 0.95 in the high speed wind tunnel of the Institute of Aerodynamics, ETH, Zurich, on a group of untapered wings of aspect ratio 3.25, having sweep angles of 0 degree and 35 degrees. Flying qualities of a high-performance personal-owner airplane

Description: Report presenting an investigation to measure the flying qualities of a high-performance personal-owner airplane to investigate the possible causes of instrument flying accidents with that type of aircraft. Testing indicated that the lack of aerodynamic stall warning and rapid roll-off at the stall could contribute to stall-spin accidents with high-performance personal-owner aircraft. Results regarding the handling qualities and the control under instrument flying conditions are provided.

Strain-Gage Measurements of Buffeting Loads on a Jet-Powered Bomber Airplane

Description: Buffet boundaries, buffeting-load increments for the stabilizers and elevators, and buffeting bending-moment increments for the stabilizers and wings as measured in gradual maneuvers for a jet-powered bomber airplane are presented. The buffeting-load increments were determined from strain-gage measurements at the roots or hinge supports of the various surfaces considered. Uranium Hexafluoride Purification

Investigation of a triangular wing in conjunction with a fuselage and horizontal tail to determine downwash and longitudinal-stability characteristics: transonic bump method

Description: Report presenting the results of an experimental investigation of the downwash and longitudinal stability characteristics of a semispan, triangular-wing airplane model with a horizontal tail. Lift, drag, and pitching-moment data re presented for the wing-fuselage combination. Results indicated that the model with the tail on or below the wing-chord plane possessed satisfactory stability characteristics throughout the test range of lift coefficient.

A Comparison of the Turbulent Boundary-Layer Growth on an Unswept and a Swept Wing

Description: Note presenting an experimental investigation in which measurements were made of the turbulent boundary layer of a two-dimensional unswept wing and a comparable wing swept 45 degrees. The results indicate the applicability of simple sweep theory for determining turbulent boundary-layer growth on the swept wing for a lift coefficient of zero.

The Stratigraphy of the Upper Part of the Bone Valley Formation and its Relation to the Leached Zone

Description: From abstract: The two topmost zones of the Bone Valley formation at the Homeland mine are a phosphate-cemented quartz sandstone and an underlying pebbly and clayey quartz and phosphate sand characterized by graded bedding. This sequence is found in every other area of the land-pebble field. Therefore, these zones are considered to be stratigraphic units and the transition between them to be a key horizon.
