Experimental Radiation Measurements in Conventional Structures: Part 2. Comparison of Measurements in Above-Ground and Below-Ground Structures From Simulated and Actual Fallout Radiation

Description: Report concerning the protection offered against radioactive fallout offered by two types of structures at the Nevada Test Site. Differences between above ground and underground structures are measured and compared to data taken from actual fallout conditions.

Geological Survey Investigations in the U12e.05 Tunnel, Nevada Test Site

Description: From introduction: The papers comprising the various parts of this report contain the preliminary results of the U. S. Geological Survey investigations in the Ul2e.05 tunnel at the Atomic Energy Commission's Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada (fig. 1). Reports on electrical resistivity, natural radioactivity, and heat required to raise the rocks to 100C will be issued later. A preliminary report on the geologic effects of the Blanca event is being prepared.

Geology and Geophysical Field Measurements for the Midi Mist Tunnel, Nevada Test Site, Nevada

Description: The following report summarizes the geological and geophysical studies made on the rocks of the Midi Mist site in the Area-12 tunnel complex of the Nevada Test Site. The data was needed to determine whether the rock met the technical criteria of the nuclear experiment.

Ground Water Test Well D, Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada

Description: Introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey is appraising the possibility, however slight, that the ground water beneath the Nevada Test Site, possibly contaminated by nuclear detonations, may carry radioactive fission products to places where they may constitute a public hazard.

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Vya Quadrangle, Nevada, Oregon, and California

Description: From Introduction: "The Vya 2º quadrangle (Fig. 1), in northwestern Nevada and small portions of California and Oregon, was evaluated to identify geologic environments and to delineate areas that have characteristics favorable for uranium deposits. Reconnaissance sampling in the Vya Quadrangle began in 1978, but final evaluation of the uranium favorability of the quadrangle was began in 1978, but final evaluation of the uranium favorability of the quadrangle was begun in June 1980."

Technical Concept-Operation Henre

Description: From Introduction: "As a result of research accomplished during Operation BREN in 1962, it has been proposed that a monoenergetic point neutron source be constructed and operated on the same tower. The field experiment which would be conducted at this time has been designated as Operation HENRE (High Energy Neutron Reactions Experiment)."
