Description: The application of Stirling cycle prime movers to total energy power generation systems was investigated. Form-stable crystalline polymer pellets for thermal energy storage. Phase 1

Description: The objective of this project was to develop a form-stable, crystalline polymer pellet TES bed material, useful in the 120 to 140/sup 0/C temperature range suitable for solar absorption air conditioning applications. This objective was achieved with a Si-O-Si crosslinked HDPE pellet material, demonstrated to have a high heat of fusion value (46 cal/g, approximately 98% of the HDPE's heat of fusion value prior to crosslinking). Studies of evaporative and conventional cooling of an energy conserving California house

Description: For cooling a Sacramento, California home, (1) higher thermostat settings, (2) insulation (3) ''solar control'' window shades, and (4) the use of an evaporative cooler in the place of a vapor compression cycle air conditioner are studied. A computer program TWOZONE is used to evaluate the effect on energy consumption and peak power. It is calculated that the peak cooling load can be reduced by a factor of 5 or more and the total energy by a factor of 20 or more.

Solar energy system installed at the North Georgia APDC office building

Description: Information is provided on the solar energy system installed in the newly constructed office building of the North Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission near downtown Dalton, Georgia. This solar heating, cooling and hot water system supplies 65 to 70% of the cooling demand and 90 to 95% of the heating demand. There are 2,001 square feet of effective Revere collector area, and the absorption chiller is in Arkla model 300 and provides 16 tons of cooling.
