The Effect of Supplementary Materials upon Academic Achievement in and Attitude toward Mathematics among Eighth Grade Students

Description: The problem of the study was to examine the effectiveness of using supplementary materials in the teaching of eighth grade mathematics. The study considered the effect that supplementary materials had on students in terms of the following variables--attitude toward mathematics, mathematical concepts, problem solving ability, understanding common fractions, computation of common fractions, decimal fractions and per cent, concepts of numbers and numerals (number system and operations), and concep… more

ABSOLUTE ASYMMETRIC SYNTHESIS. I. ON THE MECHANISM OF THEPHOTOCHEMICAL ABSOLUTE ASYMMETRIC SYNTHESIS OF HELICENES WITH CIRCULARLYPOLARIZED LIGHT. . WAVELENGTH DEPENDENCE OF THE OPTICAL YIELD OFOCTAHELICENE.

Description: The synthesis of nonracemic yields of hexa-, hepta-, octa-, and nonhelicene with circular light was observed, and the structural and wavelength dependence of the induced optical yields was examined. The results obtained, together with a detailed consideration of the mechanism of helicene synthesis from the parent diarylolefins, indicate that the induced optical activity is due to selective reaction of enantiomeric conformations of the parent cis diarylolefins by circular light.

SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF THE INHIBITORY EFFECT OF FATTYACIDS ON PHOTOSYNTHETIC SYSTEMS

Description: Fatty acids have a reversible inhibitory effect on respiration and on photosynthetic action. They investigated the influence of octanoic acid on the photosynthetic bacteria Rhodopseudomonas spheroids R-26. From the spectroscopic data they conclude that a less efficient energy transfer and decoupling of the light harvesting pigment system from the energy converting reaction center is responsible for the inhibitory effect.

Changes That Occur with Mild Mental Defectives Following Two Approaches to Group Counseling: Directive and Group-Centered

Description: The problem with which this research study is concerned is that of appraising and evaluating the therapeutic effectiveness of two different group counseling approaches, group-centered and directive, with institutionalized mental defectives. More specifically, this investigation is designed to assess the changes, if any, in self concept, behavior, and anxiety level of mental defectives that result from two different group counseling approaches. The hypothetical assumption is made that there will… more

The Earliest Trumpet Method Book Extant: A Lecture Recital; Together with Three Other Recitals

Description: This dissertation consists of four programs: one lecture recital, two recitals for solo trumpet, and one in combination with other instruments and voices. The lecture was an exploration of the contents of Modo per Imparare a Sonare di Tromba, by Girolamo Fantini, published in 16358. Fantini, who was also a trumpet player, included in his volume a wide variety of music for the natural trumpet. In addition to military signals and fanfares, the book contains exercises for developing technical abil… more

Authoritarianism and Selected Trait Patterns of School Administrators: Seventeen Case Studies

Description: This study was concerned with analyzing selected Texas school administrators in an attempt to locate intrapersonal patterns of (1) values, (2) leadership traits, (3) personality traits, (4) critical thinking ability, (5) perception, and authoritarianism. A second aspect was correlating these profiles with each other. The study had a threefold purpose. The first was to perform a detailed analysis of school administrators to determine selected intrapersonal patterns. The second was to determine p… more

Waukegan Station plume

Description: In a previous report on effects of thermal discharges from power plants into the Great Lakes, we stressed the need for a statistical analysis of the spatial and temporal pattern of the thermal plume. The plume pattern is recognized as stochastic in nature and requires statistical analysis. A single realization of the Waukegan Station plume is studied with emphasis on its information content. Areas between isotherms at various depths are computed together with volumes of water in given temperatu… more

CPTF run 6 flux monitoring

Description: At the present stage of reactor coolant studies it is possible to say that radiation affects the deposition behavior of corrosion products in the reactor. A quantitative relation between flux and deposition rate or amount is not available, nor is there information as to exactly which component, or combination thereof, of the radiation is most important. To determine these effects and those of other process parameters, Battelle-Northwest (BNW) is conducting an experimental program for the Knolls… more
