Development of Design Guidance for K-12 Schools from 30% to 50% Energy Savings: Preprint

Description: This paper describes the development of energy efficiency recommendations for achieving 30% whole-building energy savings in K-12 schools over levels achieved by following the ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1. These design recommendations look at building envelope, fenestration, lighting systems (including electrical lights and daylighting), HVAC systems, building automation and controls, outside air treatment, and service water heating.

Description: This fact sheet describes the technical assistance that the U.S. Department of Energy, through its National Renewable Energy Laboratory, provided to New Orleans, Louisiana, which helped the city incorporate energy efficiency into its rebuilding efforts for K-12 schools and homes following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. School Wind Energy Project Ideas for Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) Settlements

Description: Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) are a policy vehicle designed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to give violators an alternative to standard fines for noncompliance. Instead of paying the full amount of its fines, the violator can volunteer to fund environmentally friendly projects. These settlements are a viable source of funding for renewable energy projects. SEP settlement negotiations for many types of violations can be used to fund wind project development.
