Cancer risks and neutron RBE's from Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Description: The new radiation dose estimates for Hiroshima and Nagasaki are here combined with epidemiologic data from the A-bomb survivors and examined radiobiologically for compatability with other human and experimental data. The new doses show certain improvements over the original T65 doses. The role of intestinal injury in hematopoietic gamma ray mortality

Description: Leukemia patients typically have low granulocyte counts as do those with aplastic anemia. A review of the literature on these latter patients quickly indicates that they live much longer than leukemic patients with the same counts. Description: The estimates of absorbed doses of x rays and excess risk of cancer in bone marrow and heavily irradiated sites are extremely crude and are based on very limited data and on a number of assumptions. Endogenous retrovirus and radiation-induced leukemia in the RMF mouse

Description: The induction of myeloid leukemia in irradiated RFM/Un mice has been associated with retrovirus infection. Risk from fast neutron exposure. [Discussing of Rossi and Mays' paper on acceptable neutron dose limits in relation to leukemogenesis]

Description: The recommendations made by Rossi and Mays imply that the risk associated with the current annual dose equivalent limit of 5 rem for all radiations is unacceptably high, that this limit must be reduced by a factor of 10 or more, and that the conservative linear, no threshold hypothesis must be abandoned. Splenic sequestration of Tc-99m labeled heat treated red blood cells. [Feasibility of use for spleen imaging]

Description: The rate of blood clearance and spleen uptake as well as the total spleen uptake of heat damaged red blood cells labeled with Tc-99m was determined in eight patients, six of whom had chronic lymphatic leukemia, one had polycythemia vera and one had eosinophilia of unknown origin.
