Design of a diesel exhaust-gas purification system for inert-gas drilling

Description: To combat the serious oxygen corrosion of drill pipe when a low density drilling fluid (air or mist) is used in geothermal drilling, a system has been designed that produces an inert gas (essentially nitrogen) to be substituted for air. The system fits on three flatbed trailers, is roadable and produces 2000 scfm of gas. The projected cost for gas is slightly less than $2.00 per thousand standard cubic feet.

Energy from true in situ processing of Antrim Shale: extraction trials in an explosively fractured site

Description: Three in situ energy extraction trials were conducted at The Dow Chemical Company's oil shale site, in Michigan's Sanilac County, near the town of Peck. Here the Antrim shale layer occurs between 1200 and 1400 feet underground. The trials began on October 14, 1979, and ended on April 1, 1980. Description: An experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of cylinder cut-out or ''engine limiting'' on fuel consumption and exhaust emissions for a current technology V-type 8-cylinder engine. Characterization and Research Investigation of Methanol and Methyl Fuels. Final Progress Report

Description: Work on several aspects of using pure methanol as an alternate fuel are reported. A stock (OEM) Pinto engine mounted on a dynamometer was used to compare methanol with Indolene in terms of power, efficiency, and emissions for a variety of speeds and loads.
