Neutron Capture Gamma-Ray Libraries for Nuclear Applications

Description: The neutron capture reaction is useful in identifying and analyzing the gamma-ray spectrum from an unknown assembly as it gives unambiguous information on its composition. this can be done passively or actively where an external neutron source is used to probe an unknown assembly. There are known capture gamma-ray data gaps in the ENDF libraries used by transport codes for various nuclear applications. The Evaluated Gamma-ray Activation file (EGAF) is a new thermal neutron capture database of d… more

First PGAA and NAA experimental results from a compact high intensity D-D neutron generator

Description: Various types of neutron generator systems have been designed and tested at the Plasma and Ion Source Technology Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. These generators are based on a D-D fusion reaction. These high power D-D neutron generators can provide neutron fluxes in excess of the current state of the art D-T neutron generators, without the use of pre-loaded targets or radioactive tritium gas. Safe and reliable long-life operations are the typical features of these D-D generator… more

Fast first-forbidden transitions and subshell closures in the region of /sup 96/Zr

Description: The low-spin ..beta..-decay of /sup 96,98/Y has been reinvestigated to obtain detailed informatin on the fast first-forbidden transitions to the ground states of /sup 96,98/Zr. A considerably more detailed decay scheme of /sup 96/Y confirms the general features of a previous study. The spin of the ground state of /sup 98/Y has been measured to be 0/sup /minus// from ..gamma gamma..(THETA) angular correlations in /sup 98/Sr ..-->.. /sup 98/Zr decay and from Q/sub ..beta../ measurements by ..beta… more
