Thermodynamic Modeling of Hanford Waste Tank 241-AN-107

Description: The high level waste storage double-shell tanks at the Hanford site are highly basic. The high basicity is a key factor in controlling the chemical behavior of different components of the waste and in influencing the corrosion rate of the carbon steel primary tanks. However, the introduction of atmospheric CO2 can act to reduce the pH of the tank wastes over time and possibly alter the corrosion rate of the carbon steel tanks. Description: Cracks of various shapes and sizes exist in large high-level waste (HLW) tanks at several DOE sites. Physical Properties of Hanford Transuranic Waste Sludge

Description: Equipment that was purchased in the abbreviated year 1 of this project has been used during year 2 to study the fundamental behavior of materials that simulate the behavior of the Hanford transuranic waste sludge. Characterization of Actinides in Simulated Alkaline Tank Waste Sludges and Leachates

Description: Removal of waste-limiting components of sludge (Al, Cr, S, P) in underground tanks at Hanford by treatment with concentrated alkali has proven less efficacious for Al and Cr removal than had been hoped. Characterization and Dessolution Test results for the January 2005 DWPF Off Gas Condensate Tank Samples (U)

Description: The Off Gas Condensate Tank (OGCT) at the Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) collects the condensate from the off-gas system of the melter. The condensate stream contains entrained solids that collect in the OGCT.
