Evaluation and Consolidation of Electrolytic Thorium

Description: Abstract: "Sound, fabricable ingots of thorium were produced by triple are melting of electrolytic thorium. Consumable electrodes were fabricated by tack welding of cold-pressed and vacuum-sintered bars of the granular thorium electrodeposited from a molten-salt bath. The hydrogen content of the electrodeposited material was reduced from 80 to 4 ppm by vacuum sintering at 1250 C at pressures below 1 x 10-(-3) mm of mercury. Both sodium and chlorine content were reduced during melting; sodium fr… more

Evaluation of Uranium Potential in Selected Pennsylvanian and Permian Units and Igneous Rocks in Southwestern and Southern Oklahoma: Final Report

Description: Introduction: The areas of study include parts of the Wichita uplift, Arbuckle uplift, Hunton-Pauls Valley uplift, Central Oklahoma platform, Muenster-Waurika arch, and Anadarko basin (Fig. 1.1-1). Rocks examined include the Precambrian granite of the Arbuckle uplift, Cambrian igneous rocks of the Wichita uplift, and Pennsylvanian-Permian sedimentary rocks derived in large part from those two uplifts and, to a lesser extent, from the Ouachita system.

Effects of Ultraviolet Radiation on Chloroplast Reactions and Plant Metabolism

Description: This technical report represents a brief survey of work by this project on the effects of ultraviolet radiation (UV) on certain of the photochemical and metabolic properties of rhubarb chard and sugar beet (Beta vulgaris). These plants were selected for this work because for some years they have been used as sources of chloroplasts for Hill reaction studies in this laboratory. Some of this work has appeared as a brief paper.

Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance Basic Data for Green Bay NTMS Quadrangle, Wisconsin

Description: From abstract: Results of a reconnaissance geochemical survey of the Green Bay Quadrangle, Wisconsin are reported. Field and laboratory data are presented for 695 groundwater samples, 546 stream sediment samples, and 401 stream water samples. Statistical and areal distributions of uranium and other possibly uranium-related variables are displayed. A generalized geologic map of the survey area is provided, and pertinent geologic factors which may be of significance in evaluating the potential fo… more

100-Ton Test : Measurement of the Velocity of Sound

Description: Abstract: The velocity of sound at the time of 100-ton shot at Trinity was measured to be 1116.1 ft/sec. Values of blast pressure computed from the excess velocity are given, but are not considered as reliable.

Thorium Oxide Infiltration of Graphite Spheres

Description: Work on the preparation of graphite spheres containing thorium oxide for use as breeder elements in the Pebble Bed Reactor-Steam Power Plant is described. Graphite spheres of varying density were infiltrated with thorium nitrate solutions, followed by denitration to thorium oxide.

The p-n Cross Sections onf Ti47, V51, Cr52, Co59, and Cu63 from 4 to 6.5 Mov

Description: Absolute (p,n) cross sections have been measured for Ti47, V51, Cr52, Co59, and Cu63 at energies between 4 and 6.5 Mov. These data plus earlier measurements of the cross section for inelastic proton scattering have been used to estimate total proton absorption cross sections for V51 and Co59. An optical model calculation using parameters giving a good fit to elastic scattering measurements predicts an absorption cross section in good agreement with the measurements for Co59. For V51, some sets … more

Investigations of Ion Exchange Methods for Recovery of Uranium From Liquors Produced by Acid Leaching of Gunnar Ore

Description: An ion exchange testing program was completed on Gunnar acid leach liquors and pulps. A standard column system and a resin-in-pulp system, both using anion exchange resins, were investigated. The Gunnar leach liquors are readily amenable to the recovery of uranium by ion exchange.
