Some Middle Cenomanian (Upper Cretaceous) Acanthoceratid Ammonites from the Western Interior of the United States

Description: Abstract: The ammonite family Acanthoceratidae de Grossouvre is represented in the Western Interior region by many genera. Species and subspecies of Calycoceras, Acanthoceras, Cunningtoniceras, Plesiacanthoceras, and Protacanthoceras are important guide fossils to narrow zones of middle Cenomanian age in southeastern Montana, northeastern Wyoming, western South Dakota, and central Kansas. In this region, the ammonite zonation through most of the middle Cenomanian seems to be, from oldest to you… more

Isabella Dam Spillway, Kern River, California: Hydraulic Model Investigation

Description: Abstract: "Tests were conducted on a 1:50-scale model of Isabella Dam Spillway to determine the adequacy of proposed spillway, dam, and channel improvements. The model reproduced an area of the reservoir 800 ft wide by 1,100 ft long, the spillway, and the entire length of the exit channel. Unsatisfactory flow conditions were observed in the vicinity of the spillway crest due to approach conditions to the spillway. Large cross waves, present in the exit channel just downstream of the spillway, r… more

Basic Data Report for Drilling and Hydrologic Testing of Drillhole DOE-2 at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Site

Description: From abstract: Drillhole DOE-2 was drilled to investigate a structural depression marked by the downward displacement of stratigraphic markers in the Salado Formation ~ 2 mi north of the center of the WIPP site. This depression was named informally after the shallow borehole FC-92 in which the structure was described. The presence of the depression was confirmed by drilling.

Late Mesozoic and Cenozoic Stratigraphic and Structural Framework Near Hopewell, Virginia

Description: From introduction: This study was undertaken as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Reactor Hazards Reduction Program. One of the goals of this program is to contribute to the growing recognition and cataloging of Cenozoic faults in the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Once the faults are recognized and cataloged, the stress field and resulting tectonic framework that produced these faults can be determined. This study defines the stratigraphic and structural relationships of a tectonically anom… more
