Automatic trend detection: Time-biased document clustering

Description: This article presents a novel approach of introducing a weighted temporal feature to bias a topic clustering toward articles in a similar time frame, performed over a set of finance journal abstracts from 1974 to 2020 to demonstrate how time can be emphasized in trend detection. The authors detect trending finance topics that are not identifiable when we use a standard clustering approach with no temporal bias.

Communicating the risk of contracting Zika virus to low income underserved pregnant Latinas: A clinic-based study

Description: Article is a study using cross-sectional methodology to investigate information sources and knowledge concerning the ZIKV virus among 300 under-served pregnant Latinas recruited from prenatal care clinics in the North Texas region. Bivariate and multiple logistic regression models are used to investigate associations between the primary outcomes and patient characteristics.

Computational modeling of human reasoning processes for interpretable visual knowledge: a case study with radiographers

Description: Article proposing a computational method to quantify and dissect visual reasoning. The method characterizes spatial and temporal features and identifies common and contrast visual reasoning patterns to extract significant gaze activities. A content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities: word networks and topic modeling

Description: Authors of article conduct a content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities. They applied word networks and structural topic modeling of 488 studies published from 1980 to 2021. Results showed that the words “computer” and “computer-assisted instruction” had the highest degree of centrality in the 1980s and 1990s, and “learning disability” was another central word in the 2000s and 2010s.

Content-Based Characterization of the End of Term Web Archive

Description: Article describes how, since 2008, the End of Term Web Archive has been gathering snapshots of the federal web, consisting of the publicly accessible .gov and .mil websites. This paper describes the decisions made in the creation of these derivatives, the technologies used, and introduces the WARC Metadata Sidecar, which presents a useful approach for creating and storing auxiliary metadata for web archives.

Descriptive richness of free-text metadata: a comparative analysis of three language archives

Description: This article analyzes item‐level metadata in three language archives by focusing on free‐text metadata: the Endangered Language Archive, Pacific Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures, and the Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America. End of Term Web Archive Dataset: Longitudinal Web Archive of .GOV and .MIL Domains

Description: Article describes how the End of Term (EOT) Web Archive Dataset presents a longitudinal dataset of the US federal web which includes publicly available .gov and .mil domains, created during the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 presidential elections in the United States. The authors describe how based on the End of Term Web Archive, this dataset presents 461TB of WARC data and accompanying derivative files in WAT, WET, and CDX format.
