"It is possible within a few years to double the average production of corn per acre in the United States, and to accomplish it without any increase in work or expense. The lines of improvement that will most easily and quickly double the present production per acre are as follow: (1) Improvement in the quality of seed planted; (2) improvement in the condition of the soil; (3) improvement in methods of cultivation." -- p. 3-4
