This department offers courses for
students who major in sociology or
social work, and social science with
sociology, anthropology, or social work
as a leading subject. The department
also offers courses for those who wish a
first or second minor in sociology,
anthropology, or social work.
Programs of Study
Bachelor of Arts
Majors must complete at least 30
semester hours in sociology, including
Sociology 151, 152, 305 and 340.
Majors or minors in sociology receive
sociology credit for University
Course 325, The Role of Women in Society.
Students who plan graduate work
in sociology should take Sociology 330 or
415, 385, 400, and 475.
Majors should select first minors in
consultation with departmental
advisors.
Bachelor of Social Work
Majors must complete Social Work 245,
343, 450, 480, 481-482, 483-487, in
sequence; Social Work 484; Sociology
151, 152; Psychology 163, 362, 461;
Economics 447; Philosophy 340; and
Sociology 305 or Psychology 365;
Sociology 385 or Psychology 361. Other
requirements are 12 hours of Eng-
lish; 14 hours of Spanish or RHAB 482-484
may be substituted for SPAN
204-205 or 205; 6 hours each of American
history and political science; a
minimum of 12 hours (at least four courses)
in laboratory sciences, including
Biology 121-122 and two other courses
from the following fields; chemistry,
earth sciences, physics/astronomy; 4 hours
of physical education and sufficient
electives to meet university requirements. A
total of 124 hours are required for
graduation.
