MEMORIALS
Compatriot Roye A. Mulholland, a former TXSSAR President
passed away on April 15, 1999. He was 91 years of age. Compa-
triot Mulholland was a member and Past President of the Patrick
Henry Chapter, SAR in Austin. He was also a past Texas Society
President (1958-59). He continued to be active in his chapter andwas a regular attendee at the meetings until his death. Compatriot
Mulholland was born on September 7, 1907 in Coleman, Texas. He served in
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and after his retirement in 1954 he
maintained a consulting engineering practice in Austin.
Funeral services for Compatriot John C. Lee were conducted at the First
Baptist Church in New Braunfels on Wednesday, July14, 1999 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment was in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
Former TXSSAR Historian and Plano Compatriot James M. Head, Jr., died
on May 27,1999. James Manley Head Jr, a compatriot larger than life, was
born in Stephenville, Texas on the 27th of December 1936, the son of James
Manley Head Sr and Lola Mae Bills. HIs Revolutionary War ancestor was
Richard Head Sr, a soldier of Southhampten North Carolina. Compatriot
Head was married to Mona Briens for 28 years and joined the SAR in 1981
where he served in many Chapters in many capacities.
Plano Chapter member Mel Wheat died on June 18, 1999. Mel was very
active in Confederate and Texas history groups.
