The relative spectral emission as a function of wavelength in the 1200--2900 {Angstrom} region is measured for a vacuum UV flash device whose discharge is initiated by a high resistance formed-ferrite rod. The device is studied because of its usefulness in the optical pumping of large volume laser systems.
