Considerable emphasis will be placed on discovery, thus
improving the quality of education. The goal is to produce
an educational setting where students will seek answers to
questions and learn concepts and skills through personal ex-
perience. This trend emphasizes learning by doing. They will
read, listen, view and learn by doing, even by trial and error.
Many of these experiences will take place in the new Learning
Center where there will be printed and non-print materials
organized and integrated for a totally new learning environment.
Independent study facilities will include laboratories,
work rooms, and various other areas of the Center where students
may find appropriate tools in each area of human knowledge. All
of these learning experiences are related and thus should be
placed in locations where they are accessible to the student.
The best place most often will be the school library, under the
direction of professional librarians with adequate para-professional
assistance. 3

Too many of today's teachers and librarians are only con-
cerned with books. Perhaps the old saying "Reading maketh the
full man" is true in spirit today, but in fact it is a fallacy,
a man today needs reading and a voluminous amount of knowledge
and skills not attainable through books alone. Thus, tomorrow's
professional librarian will see books in relation to many other
