Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Special Reconnaissance Report for the Deep Creek Mountains, Nevada and Utah

Description: "This report represents the results of the reconnaissance sampling of the Deep Creek Mountains of western Utah...Samples collected in this study include dry and wet stream sediments and water from available streams, wells, and springs. The samples were analyzed for uranium, as well as 15 to 20 trace element, using neutron activation techniques. In addition, field and laboratory measurements were made on the water samples." Component test procedure for the ground demonstration system turbine performance

Description: This test procedure provides a detailed description of the verification methods which shall be used in the development program to be conducted on the Dynamic Isotope Power System (DIPS) Turbine to fulfill the requirements of the Ground Demonstration System Test Plan. The test objectives are to characterize turbine performance so that data can be used for turbine configuration selection and system performance evaluation during Ground Demonstration System (GDS) testing.

Dynamic Isotope Power System: technology verification phase. Component test procedure for the ground demonstration system jet condenser orifice performance. 79-DIPS-27

Description: This test procedure provides a description of the verification methods which shall be used in the development program to be conducted on the Dynamic Isotope Power System (DIPS) Jet Condenser to verify adequate orifice thermal and hydraulic performance. The test objectives were to: verify on Dowtherm the results of water testing for nozzle selection, targeting and liquid jet brooming per TP-414A; characterize the condensing rate performance at varying lengths, velocities, and states for possible… more

Voloxidation and dissolution of irradiated (Th,U)O/sub 2/

Description: Exploratory hot-cell tests were made to determine the amounts of fission products released by high-temperature oxidation (voloxidation) of irradiated fuel, initially (Th/sub 0/ /sub 96/U/sub 0/ /sub 04/)O/sub 2/, and whether the treatment would affect the subsequent dissolution of the oxide. Fifteen-year-decayed fuel rods were sheared to dislodge the (Th,U)O/sub 2/ from its cladding, sieved to determine the size range, and an aliquot was oxidized in flowing air at 600/sup 0/C for approx. 2 h wh… more
