Recovery of Plutonium from Slag and Crucible

Description: Slag and crucible can be dissolved satisfactorily by the Los Alamos method of total dissolution with nitric acid in the presence of aluminum nitrate. Extraction of 99% of the plutonium from total dissolution salted with aluminum nitrate was achieved by three successive contactings with 1/10 volumes of 30% TBp- AMSCO 125-90W. The Valve-Actuated Pulse Column Design and Operation

Description: A countercurrent extraction column is described which employs timed solenoid valves and pressurized feeds to provide a pulsing action to disperse the phases. The steps in the pulsing cycle are independent and thus provide greater separation of the operating variables than is possible with conventional pulse columns. Description: A study was made of the stability of tributyl phosphate (TBP) to acids, bases, and UO/sub 2/(NO/sub 3/su)/sub 2/ solutions, and of the chemistry of its decomposition products. Analytical results on leachings from Nutsche Filters

Description: This report describes results of an investigation to determine whether plutonium nitrates and lanthanum compounds were being entrained on the filter aid and filter block of the Nutsche Filters in Cell 2 of Bldg. 231. Leach samples were analyzed for La, Pu, phosphate, fluoride, Pu{sup 240}, and Am.
