Description: The volume of H/sub 2/ evolved on dissolving screened nonroasted U- bearing scrap, slag, and liner in HCl were determined; the values were found to indicate the degree of removal of metallic particles by screening. Experimental Investigation of Oil Film Pressure Distribution for Misaligned Plain Bearings

Description: Note presenting a demonstration of the effect of axial and twisting misaligning couples on the oil film pressure distribution of a loaded bearing as shown by photographs of a number of three-dimensional plaster models representing averaged oil film pressure distribution under representative conditions. Five models with five different conditions were tested. Results regarding the oil film pressure distribution, bearing temperature distribution, and friction are provided.

Discrepancies Between Theoretical and Observed Behavior of Cyclically Loaded Bearings

Description: Note presenting an analysis of discrepancies between theory and the experimental behavior of a cyclically loaded shaft rotating in a sleeve bearing. For constant loads rotating at one-half the frequency of shaft rotation, eccentricity ratios were found to be unity when kerosene was used to lubricate the test bearing.

Preliminary investigation of molybdenum disulfide-air-mist lubrication for roller bearings operating to DN values of 1 x 10(exp 6) and ball bearings operating to temperatures of 1000 degrees F

Description: The effectiveness of molybdenum disulfide MoS2 as a bearing lubricant was determined at high temperature and at high speeds. A 1-inch-bore ball bearing operated at temperatures to 1000 F, a speed of 1725 rpm, and a thrust load of 20 pounds when lubricated only with MoS2-air mist. A 75-millimeter-bore cageless roller bearing, provided with a MoS2-syrup coating before operation, operated at DN values to 1 x 10(exp 6) with a load of 368 pounds.

Lubrication and cooling studies of cylindrical-roller bearings at high speeds

Description: The results of an experimental investigation of the effect of oil inlet distribution and oil inlet temperature on the inner and outer-race temperatures of 75-millimeter-bore (size 215) cylindrical-roller inner-race-riding cage-type bearings are reported. A radial-load test rig was used over a range of dn values (product of the bearing bore in mm and the shaft speed in r.p.m) from 0.3 x 10(5) to 1.2 x 10(6) and static radial loads from 7 to 1113 pounds.
