The BRAHMS experiment at RHIC goals and status

Description: The BRAHMS experiment is designed to measure semi-inclusive spectra of charged hadron over a wide range of rapidity. It will yield information on particle production, both at central rapidity and in the baryon rich fragmentation region. Examples of measures for soft as well as for hard physics are presented. The present status of BRAHMS is discussed, as well as the plans for measurements in the first year of running at RHIC.

Calibration of the high resolution spectrometer barrel calorimeter at PEP

Description: The High-Resolution Spectrometer (HRS) is a general-purpose detector for the study of high-energy electron-positron collisions. The HRS has been in data-taking operation since early 1982. This report covers the calibration of the barrel shower counter system. Calorimetry at 0{degree} in RHIC: Some issues in the choice of detector technology

Description: The authors discuss briefly the case for a zero degree calorimeter at RHIC and space constraints on such a device. Two GEANT simulations of quartz fiber calorimeters are then studied and compared to the corresponding case of scintillator sampling. The authors find that the Q-cal calorimeter does provide some improvement in response uniformity near the calorimeter edge to hadronic showers (due to the filtering out of wide angle shower products). The Capabilities of the upgraded MIPP experiment with respect to Hypernuclear physics

Description: We describe the state of analysis of the MIPP experiment, its plans to upgrade the experiment and the impact such an upgraded experiment will have on hypernuclear physics. CCpi0 Event Reconstruction at MiniBooNE

Description: We describe the development of a fitter to reconstruct {nu}{sub {mu}} induced Charged-Current single {pi}{sup 0} (CC{pi}{sup 0}) events in an oil Cerenkov detector (CH{sub 2}). These events are fit using a generic muon and two photon extended track hypothesis from a common event vertex. The development of ring finding and particle identification are described. Comparisons between data and Monte Carlo are presented for a few kinematic distributions.

CDF evidence for the top quark & B physics at Fermilab

Description: We present the first direct evidence for the top quark with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) in a sample of {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s=1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 19.3 pb{sup -1}. The recent B physics results at Fermilab from both collider and fixed target experiments are reviewed.

The CDF-II time-of-flight detector

Description: A Time-of-Flight (TOF) detector, based on plastic scintillator and fine-mesh photomultiplier tubes, has been added to the CDF-II experiment. Since August 2001, the TOF system has been fully instrumented and integrated into the CDF-II data acquisition system. The TOF system will provide particle identification of low momentum charged pions, kaons and protons in -collisions. The CDF Time of Flight Detector

Description: A new Time of Flight (TOF) detector based on scintillator bars with fine-mesh photomultipliers at both ends has been in operation since 2001 in the CDF experiment. With a design resolution of 100 ps, the TOF can provide separation between K{sup +-} and {pi}{sup +-} in p{bar p} collisions at the 2{omega} level for low momentum, which enhances b flavor tagging capabilities. CDF top results in the dilepton channel

Description: The current status of the top quark search at CDF in the dilepton channel is presented. In the 1992--1993 run (Run Ia), with 19.3 pb{sup {minus}1} collected, two e{mu} events survived all the cuts, including a two-jet cut for high mass top, with a total estimated background of 0.56{sub 0.13}{sup 0.25} events. With approximately 9 pb{sup {minus}1} of data analyzed from the 1993--1994 run (Run Ib) a new e{mu} event passing all the cuts has been detected.

CDF top results in the lepton + jets channel

Description: Results from the 1992--1993 Tevatron run (ran IA) top search at CDF in the lepton+jets channel are reported. The jet-vertexing algorithm tags 6 events on a background of 2.3 {plus_minus} 0.3 events in the W+ {ge} 3 jets data sample, and the soft lepton analysis finds T events on a background of 3.1 {plus_minus} 0.3 events in the same data sample. Jet-vertex and soft-lepton tag correlations are described. Also given are the expected and observed number of tags in the Z+mulitjet control sample.

The CDF top search in the multijet decay mode

Description: A status report on the CDF top search in the multijet channel is given. After topological cuts and the requirement of a secondary vertex in the silicon microvertex detector, about 120 events remain (21.4 pb{sup {minus}1}), in which the signal to background ratio (for a nominal top mass of 160 GeV) is estimated to be 1/10. The central tracking detectors for D/O/

Description: Three types of drift chambers are being constructed for the Fermilab D/O/ experiment. The construction and readout of these chambers stress good spatial resolution, good two hit separation, and dE/dx.
