Measurement of inclusive triple differential dijet cross section, d{sup 3}{sigma}/dE{sub T}d{eta}{sub 1}d{eta}{sub 2} in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV

Description: Measurement of the inclusive triple differential dijet cross section, d{sup 3}{sigma}/dE{sub T}d{sub {eta}1}d{sub {eta}2}, at a center of mass energy {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector during the 1992--1993 run. The sensitivity of this measurement to different parton distribution functions is explored. A comparison of the data to NLO theory using different parton distributions functions indicates the need for a smaller gluon content in the x range accessible at the Tevatron than is predi… more

Study of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing in D0

Description: The probability of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing has been measured using the D{O} detector. Non-isolated dimuon events are used to determine the ratio of like to unlike-sign pairs. The measured ratio is 0.48 {+-} 0.04(stat.) {+-} 0.03(syst.), compared with the expected value of 0.23 {+-} 0.07 in the absence of B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} mixing. The combined mixing probability is measured to be 0.13 {+-} 0.02(stat.) {+-} 0.05(syst.) in good agreement with other experimental measurements.

A Search for Rapidity Gaps in Jet Events and a Study of Color Coherence in Multijet Events at D0

Description: The authors present studies of Rapidity Gaps and Color Coherence in jet events at the DO Detector for data taken during the recent Tevatron collider run at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV. An upper limit of f({Delta}{eta}{sub c} > 3) < 1.2 {times} 10{sup {minus}2} {at} 95% C.L. on the true rapidity gap fraction is given. The color coherence results indicate the angle ordering approximation as modeled in the Herwig Monte Carlo represents the collider as well.

Description: The cross sections for W and Z production in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV are measured using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The detected final states are W {yields} ev{sub e}, Z {yields} e{sup +}e{sup {minus}}, W {yields} {mu}v{sub {mu}}, and Z {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}. In the ratio of these measurements, many common sources of systematic error cancel and we measure R = {sigma},(p{bar p} {yields} W) {center_dot} Br(W {yields} lv)/ {sigma},(p{bar p… more

Observation of the top quark

Description: The D0 collaboration reports on a search for the Standard Model top quark in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV at the Femlilab Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 50 pb{sup {minus}1}. We have searched for t{bar t} production in the dilepton and single-lepton decay channels, with and without tagging of b quark jets. We observe 17 events with an expected background of 3.8 {plus_minus} 0.6 events. The probability for an upward fluctuation of the background to produce… more

Dijet angular distributions at D0

Description: Measurements of the dijet angular distributions are relatively insensitive to parton distribution functions and thus offer an excellent method of testing the LO and NLO predictions of perturbative QCD. The authors present measurements of the dijet angular distributions for {vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar} < 3.0 in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV.

Search for a fourth generation charge {minus}1/3 quark via flavor changing neutral currents

Description: There is some likelihood that a light (< m{sub t}) fourth generation charge -1/3 quark (b{prime}) would decay predominantly via loop induced flavor changing neutral currents. The charged current decay of b{prime} to charm would be highly Cabibbo suppressed due to the fact that it changes the generation number by two. The D0 experiment has searched for b{prime} pair production where one or both b{prime} quarks decays via b{prime} {r_arrow} b+{gamma}, giving signatures photon + three jets and two… more

Studies of QCD at the Tevatron with the D0 detector

Description: QCD studies at Fermilab`s Tevatron encompass a rich variety of topics. We present some of the latest results from the D0 experiment including probes of the standard model given by the inclusive jet cross section, the dijet invariant mass spectrum and several studies with direct photons. To complement these probes, we also present new results from precision examinations of the color interactions including studies of color coherence and jet azimuthal decorrelation. 22 refs., 14 figs.

A measurement of the ratio of W + 1 jet to W + 0 jets cross sections and comparisons to QCD

Description: A preliminary measurement of the ratio, R{sup 10}, of the production cross sections for W + 1 Jet and W + 0 Jets processes at {radical}s = 1,800 GeV by the D0 Collaboration is presented. A comparison of this ratio is made to next-to-leading order calculations and the implications of these comparisons, especially for the extraction of a value for the strong coupling constant {alpha}{sub s}(M{sub W}{sup 2}), are discussed.

Top quark physics at the D0 experiment

Description: In this paper I present the latest results on top quark physics from the D0 collaboration since the discovery of the top quark in March 1995. I summarize the discovery results, discuss progress since the discovery, and show how we can measure the top quark mass using three separate techniques. The measurements were made at the Fermilab Tevatron, a p{bar p} collider with {radical}s = TeV, using {approximately}50 pb{sup {minus}1} data collected from 1992 to early 1995.

Measurement of the top quark mass at D0

Description: The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of 93 lepton + 4 or more jets events collected with the D0 detector at the FNAL Tevatron collider. The authors find the top quark mass is 169 {+-} 8(stat.) {+-} 8(syst.) GeV/c{sup 2}. The analysis assumes that top quarks are produced as t{anti t} pairs that decay to W bosons and b quarks. The final states result when one W decays to e{nu} or {mu}{nu} and the other W to q{anti q}. More than four jets may be present because of final and initial… more
