Description: Recording of Peter De Moncey-Conegliano's In memoriam George Sand. This work pays homage to George Sand whose combination of acute social conscience and intense artistic sensibility are rare in today's world. This piece speaks on the outcomes of the Industrial Revolution and the first demand of socialism. The material in this piece includes texts by George Sand, fragments of a 19th century folk song, and Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude".

Saluang playing is a very meditative way of playing with the technique of circular breathing. This work was originally made for Teresa Birks, a human rights watcher in Indonesia.

Meca mecanica

Description: Recording of Alain Basso's Meca mecanica. This work was created as part of the Bourges 2004 Synthèse Festival. This work combines two types of sounds: themes of Western music which include the flute, orchestra, violin, and barrel organ, as well as oriental themes. The title was derived by the idea that instruments themselves can be defined as a type of mechanism which is used to create sound.

Preludium and canon for bagpipe sounds

Description: Recording of Göran Lindsjö's Preludium and canon for bagpipe sounds. The composer has used recordings of nine tones that were produced by a bagpipe that were then transformed and assembled together to create the work. The composer notes that neither the preludium nor the canon is written in genuine folklore style, but rather the only folklore characteristic about the composition is the bagpipe sound.

The composer has used this folksong and transformed it to explore the idea of what humans and machines have in common.

Rabo-de-Arraia

Description: Recording of Marcus Bittencourt's Rabo-de-Arraia. This work was composed under the theme of "Les Maitres Sonneurs" and shares some folk traditions of Brazil. The idea of this work comes from several of the composer's memories of watching capoeira circles which acts as a martial art, dance, sport, game, and musical event. The ensemble of capoeira musicians in this work was recreated by computer algorithms.
