Systematics of Alpha-Radioactivity

Description: Correlations of alpha-decay energies in terms of mass number and atomic number have been made for all of the alpha-emitting species now numbering over 100. For each element isotopes show increase in alpha-energy with decrease in mass number except in the region of 126 neutrons where there is an explainable reversal. Residual Radiation of the LRL 184-Inch Cyclotron

Description: Residual radioactivity at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory 184-Inch Cyclotron was measured during November 1960. The study was conducted along three principal lines: (1) general survey of radiation levels in the cyclotron vault, (2) activation of foils placed near the cyclotron, and (3) gamma-ray spectra of the cyclotron gap region, including dee structure. MEASURING THE RELEASE OF SHORT-LIVED FISSION GASES DURING CAPSULE IRRADIATIONS

Description: A technique is described for the determination of the release of short- lived fission gases during capsule fuel irradiations. Sweep helium passes over the fuel specimen and carries fission gases to a delay trap located close to the capsule. Short-lived fission gases decay in the trap and deposit long-lived daughters which are assayed by radiochemical methods after trap removal.
