Development of the electroacoustic dewatering (EAD) process for fine/ultrafine coal

Description: Battelle (Columbus, Ohio) undertook development of its electro-acoustic (EAD) process to demonstrate its commercial potential for continuous dewatering of fine and ultrafine coals. The pilot plant and laboratory results, provided in this report, show that a commercial-size EAD machine is expected to economically achieve the dewatering targets for {minus}100 mesh and {minus}325 mesh coals. The EAD process utilizes a synergistic combination of electric and acoustic (e.g., ultrasonic) fields in co… more

Coal surface control for advanced physical fine coal cleaning technologies. Final report, September 19, 1988--August 31, 1992

Description: This final report presents the research work carried out on the Coal Surface Control for Advanced Physical Fine Coal Cleaning Technologies project, sponsored by the US Department of Energy, Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center (DOE/PETC). The project was to support the engineering development of the selective agglomeration technology in order to reduce the sulfur content of US coals for controlling SO{sub 2} emissions (i.e., acid rain precursors). The overall effort was a part of the DOE/PETCs A… more

A study of multi-stage/multifunction column for fine particle separation. Quarterly report, October 1 - December 31, 1996

Description: The overall objective of the research program is to explore the potential application of a new invention involving a multistage column equipped with concentric draft-tubes (hereafter referred to as the multistage column) for fine coal cleaning and other fluid/particle separation processes. The research work will identify the design parameters and their effects on the performance of the separation process. The results of this study will provide an engineering basis for further development of thi… more
