200-GeV proton-proton elastic scattering at high transverse momentum

Description: This is a proposal to study p-p elastic scattering at the highest possible P{sub {perpendicular}}{sup 2} at NAL, using a CH{sub 2} or H{sub 2} target placed directly in the extracted beam and a double arm spectrometer. We expect to be able to set an upper limit at the level d{sigma}/dt/d{sigma}/dt{sub t=0} {approx} 10{sup -14}. This would be sufficient to determine if there are exactly three regions in the p-p interaction with considerable precision.

An Analysis of Criteria for Orientation in Public Junior Colleges as Perceived by Three Groups

Description: The problem of this study was to analyze the perceptions held by the following three groups concerning orientation criteria for public junior colleges: (1) a random sample of authorities in the field of orientation, (2) a random sample of public junior college presidents, and (3) a random sample of orientation directors of public junior colleges.

An Analysis of Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Concerto for Trumpet

Description: During the first half of the twentieth century the trumpet has gained its position as a solo instrument, even surpassing its esteemed position in the High Baroque Era. With the combined efforts of performers like Herbert L. Clark, Ernest S. Williams, and Joseph Arban, and the efforts of the French school of trumpet playing, notably those of Raymond Sabarich, the trumpet has risen from a mere accompanying instrument of the Classical Period and early Romantic Era to its present place as an expres… more

An Analysis of Selected Characteristics of Persons Twenty-Five and Older Seeking Teacher Certification

Description: The purposes of this study were (1) to describe the persons twenty-five and older entering the teacher education program and seeking certification, and (2) to compare the persons twenty-five and older with a "typical" group of persons under twenty-five with respect to (a) ability, as measured by the Cooperative School and College Ability Test, (b) factors for entering teaching, as measured by "Factors Influencing the Decision to Become a Teacher," (c) attitudes held toward teaching, as measured… more

An Analysis of Thirty Border Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas in Relation to E. W. Burgess' Concentric Zone Hypothesis

Description: This study is made to evaluate some of these forces for the thirty titled Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas of the United States which are located on and overlap borders of two or more states. The attempt is made to determine if border SMSAs conform to the Burgess model despite state lines and other barriers imposed between SMSA parts, or whether such barriers restrict functional growth to the state side containing the central city.

An Annotated Translation of the British Museum, Additional 4918: Traité De La Musique Moderne, Avec Quelques Remarques Sur La Musique Ancienne Par A.D.V. (1702)

Description: The British Museum, Additional Manuscript 4918, provides an interesting insight into the sociology as well as the music of the Baroque period. This treatise was written by an unknown "music-lover," who was not a musician by profession. All that is definitely known about his identity are the initials A.D.V. that appear on the title page. The manuscript is dated 1702. In method and design this work represents the transitional character of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Because the auth… more

anti-p d interactions from 20-GeV to 60-GeV

Description: We will study the reaction {bar p}n {yields} {bar p}p{sup {paragraph}-} at 20, 40, and 60 GeV/c in a bubble chamber experiment using a sample of 1,000,000 pictures.

Arousal Responses to Specific Structured Classroom Activities and Events as Determined by Cardiac Telemetry

Description: The purposes of this study were (1) to determine the effects of specific structured classroom activities and events on the cardiac rates of students in the classroom, (2) to determine whether or not there was a detectable difference in the cardiac rates of students involved in structured classroom activities and events and cardiac rates of students not so involved, and (3) to determine the effects on the cardiac rates of students involved in two techniques of attaining student involvement and a… more

ASYMMETRY IN n+ PHOTOPRODUCTION FROM A POLARIZED TARGET AT 5 AND16 GeV

Description: The authors have measured the asymmetry in the cross section for the reaction {gamma}p {yields} {pi}{sup +}n between the two stages of polarization of the initial proton normal to the plane of scattering. The initial laboratory photon energies, k, were 5 GeV and 16 GeV, and the regions of momentum transfer, t, covered were 0.14 {le} {radical}-t {le} 1.01 GeV/c and 0.14 {le} {radical}-t {le} 0.78 GeV/c respectively. A butanol polarized target was used with the SLAC 20 GeV/c magnetic spectrometer… more

An Audiometric Comparison of the Results of Total Stapedectomy and Partial Stapedectomy Techniques of Stapes Surgery for Otoselerosis

Description: The purpose of this study is to compare the audiometric results of two variations of the stapedectomy procedure: the partial stapedectomy as performed by Hough, and the total stapedectomy as performed by Schuknecht and House.

Behavior of high energy elastic scattering and total cross sections for pi+/- p, k+/- p, pp and p - anti-p

Description: It is proposed to extend to the NAL energy range the investigation of elastic ''diffraction'' scattering and precision measurements of the total cross sections performed at BNL during the past decade. It is expected that this investigation will be of considerable interest and importance in regard to understanding the asymptotic behavior of forward and near forward scattering amplitudes. The investigation will be composed of two highly complementary parts, which in common utilize the same beam, … more

Budgetary Decision-Making in the Texas Legislature

Description: The government of any state has the responsibility of providing for the health, safety, welfare, education, and protection of its citizens. To accomplish these goals, states have created elaborate and complex administrative organizations staffed by thousands of bureaucrats. The increased demands of the citizens of each state upon their state governments for better education, highways, and increased protection are reflected both in the expansion of the agencies created to provide these services … more

The Calculation of Rotational Energy Levels and Rotational Line Intensities in Diatomic Molecules

Description: Report describing procedures for making quantum mechanical calculations of rotational energy levels and rotational line intensities in diatomic molecules. The procedures are illustrated by sample calculations. A familiarity with the material of this report should enable a practicing electronic spectroscropist to carry out, though in a rather mechanical way, his own theoretical calculations for molecules under experimental investigation.

CHEMICAL ANALYSES OF SODIUM SYSTEMS FINAL REPORT

Description: BNWL-1407 summarizes information gained from the Chemical Analyses of Sodium Systems Program pursued by Battelle- Northwest over the period from July 1967 through June 1969. Tasks included feasibility studies for performing coulometric titration and polarographic determinations of oxygen in sodium, and the development of new separation techniques for sodium impurities and their subsequent analyses. The program was terminated ahead of schedule so firm conclusions were not obtained in all areas o… more

Civil Rights Legislation of the 1960s: The Support of Republican Congressional Leaders Helped Make Possible Its Passage

Description: The efforts of Republican congressional leaders to secure passage of civil rights measures during the 1960's will be emphasized in this thesis. Also, an effort will be made to present objectively the views of Republican congressional leaders toward civil rights measures and to show how they contributed, in the day-to-day legislative proceedings, to the passage of these measures.
