Brief Report: Psychotherapeutic Outcomes Reported by Therapists Trained in Induced After-Death Communication

Description: Abstract: Induced after-death communication (IADC) is a new psychotherapeutic procedure based on a variation of eye-movement desensitization and re-processing (EMDR). Psychologist Allan Botkin discovered it accidentally in 1995 while he was conducting therapy with combat veterans suffering from grief and post-traumatic stress disorder. During the course of the IADC treatment, Botkin's patients reported experiencing what they believed to be communications from a deceased person. The psychologic… more

Hyperdimensional Perspectives in Out-of-Body and Near-Death Experiences

Description: Article examining the possibility of additional dimensions (hyperdimensions), what they would seem like, and whether they seem to be described by the unusual visual perspectives found in out-of-body and near-death experience accounts, as well as examining some implications of a hyperdimensional model of the universe.

Afterward: Making Meaning After a Frightening Near-Death Experience

Description: Abstract: The routes by which individuals attribute meaning to a near-death experience (NDE) appear to be similar, whether the experience was radiant or terrifying. This article explores three such avenues in relation to frightening experiences. I argue that resisting a terrifying NDE is likely to intensify fearfulness in an individual, and also that a similar effect occurs within society when this type of experience is resisted and misunderstood. The article concludes with an approach to sy… more

The Near-Death Experience in Children: Shades of the Prison-House Reopening

Description: Abstract: "Some critics have argued that the near-death experience (NDE) is merely a culturally conditioned response to a life crisis, a reflection of expectations engendered by education, religious training, social mores, and family traditions. A review of seventeen accounts of NDEs in children, including two youngsters still in childhood, indicates that NDEs that occur at early ages appear to be substantially similar in content to adult experiences. These accounts suggest that cultural cond… more

The Paradox of Jonah: Response to "Solving the Riddle of Frightening Near-Death Experiences"

Description: Article contending that Kenneth Ring's arguments are the same that have been used by skeptics to question the validity of the radiant near-death experience (NDE); that as they have been found inadequate there, so they do not adequately address the meaning or value of the terrifying experience; and that experiences of the depths may be equally productive and as worthy of serious study as are experiences of radiance.

Superjective Ontology: A Post-Cartesian Tool for the Near-Death Experience

Description: Abstract: This study questions the validity of subjective and objective categories, and suggests a new approach, which I call "superjective ontology," as a tool for resolving archaic difficulties. In the first section, I present evidence that a deeply ingrained problem of "ontological disparity" really does exist, along with the extent to which this conditions our thought patterns. I then summarize monism and dualism, and present the core thesis advancing the argument from superjective ontolo… more

Pathophysiology of Stress-Induced Limbic Lobe Dysfunction: A Hypothesis for NDEs

Description: This paper discusses the strong resemblance of near-death experiences (NDEs) to complex hallucinations associated with limbic lobe dysfunction. The paper presents the hypothesis that neurohormones with the capacity to influence hippocampal activity may also cause characteristics of NDE limbic lobe syndrome.

Response to "Could Pam Reynolds Hear?" [#2]

Description: Abstract: The near-death experience (NDE) of Pam Reynolds is one of the most impressive and medically well-documented NDEs in the literature. It took place during an operation to remove a brain aneurism, and it included almost all the aspects of a classic NDE, including accurate visual perception of the operating theater. Furthermore, parts of the experience would seem to have occurred when no brain activity whatsoever was possible. Despite testimony to the contrary by the medical personnel inv… more

Parapsychological Reflections on Some Tunnel Experiences

Description: Partial Abstract: "This paper examines tunnel experiences, which have been discussed by Raymond Moody, Kenneth Ring, and Kevin Drab in the context of near-death experiences. It is argued that tunnel experiences, even when possibly triggered by psi cognition, are not always associated with near-death experiences or out-of-body experiences. A proposed definition of pseudo-hallucinations is adapted to possible psi-induced tunnel experiences." Six categories of tunnel experiences are outlined, a "t… more
