Computer description APPR-1 simulator

Description: The APPR-1 is a pressurized water reactor having a low specific heat fuel and a water primary coolant. The primary coolant loop delivers heat from the reactor to the steam generator. The secondary water in the steam generator is converted to steam and then taken to the turbine to drive an electrical generator. The simulation of this system is broken down into three primary areas: the neutron kinetics in the reactor which are necessary to generate the primary power function, the heat transfer… more

Some Comments on the Selection of Operating Temperatures for DPR

Description: The results of this investigation indicate that maximum electric power generation can be obtained by selecting the turbine steam temperature within a range of plus/minus 30 degrees C. from an "idealized" steam temperature. This "idealized" steam temperature is shown to depend primarily on the maximum permissible uranium temperature. The minimum available condenser temperature and the temperature rise of the coolant in the pile effect the selection of the turbine steam temperature to lesser ex… more

Coal technology program progress report for September 1976

Description: In the separations technology work, bench-scale filtrations using coal and char precoats were compared to standard filtrations using diatomaceous earth precoats. In both cases the filtration rates and filtrate clarities were comparable to standard values; thus, considerable economic savings are possible due to the lower cost and substitution of a material readily available, and subsequent recovery of the energy value of the coal or char precoat by gasification. The demonstrated use of the char … more

Experimental and analytical research on the aerodynamics of wind turbines. Mid-term technical report, June 1--December 31, 1975

Description: The successful development of reliable, cost competitive horizontal axis, propeller-type wind energy conversion systems (WECS) is strongly dependent on the availability of advanced technology for each of the system components. Past experience and current studies of this type of wind energy conversion systems have shown that the wind turbine subsystem most significantly effects the system's cost effectiveness and performance capability. Thus adequate technology bases are essential for all elemen… more

Coal-fired alkali metal power system design study. Technical progress report, January 1, 1977--March 31, 1977

Description: The most important design variables influencing the economics and performance of the furnace-boiler are the bed operating temperature and pressure, operating bed depth, SO/sub 2/ absorbent material, mean particle size in the bed, and the ratio of the spacing-to-diameter of the boiler tubes. With the high boiling temperature of the alkali metal systems, the temperature difference between the bed and the boiler is restricted to a rather narrow limit and becomes the controlling factor in determini… more
