Installation of horizontal seismometers in the LLL seismic net and their calibration. [Measurement of ground motion from underground nuclear explosions at Nevada Test Site]

Description: The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory seismic net was upgraded by installing two horizontal seismometers at each of the four LLL stations. These seismometers record radial and transverse ground motion from underground nuclear explosions at the Nevada Test Site and complement the vertical components which were installed several years ago. Each station now monitors three orthogonal components of ground velocity over a broad frequency band.

Nondestructive assay instrumentation for a Savannah River Plant upgrade project

Description: We have designed and are developing three different computer-based spectrometer systems. Two will measure the concentration of Pu solutions by gamma-ray and by stimulated x-ray fluorescence emissions of solid samples in closed containers. Evaluation of the WIND System atmospheric models: An analytic approach

Description: An analytic approach was used in this study to test the logic, coding, and the theoretical limits of the WIND System atmospheric models for the Savannah River Plant. In this method, dose or concentration estimates predicted by the models were compared to the analytic solutions to evaluate their performance. Equilibrium ammonium concentration in slurry mix evaporator condensate tank (SMECT) with ammonia scrubbers

Description: During design reviews of the Recycle Colection Tank (RCT) at the Savannah River Site it was determined that in all cases the RCT scrub solution could not be routed to the RCT. During transfers to the tank farm (estimated ten hour cycle), the ammonia evolved from the RCT is scrubbed by the RCT scrubber and the ammonia scrub water must be returned to the SMECT. Comparison of observed and predicted Kr-85 air concentrations

Description: A computer code, ANEMOS has been written to estimate concentrations in air and ground deposition rates for Atmospheric Nuclides Emitted from Multiple Operation Sources. Radiological impact of Par Pond drawdown from liquid effluent pathways

Description: The water level of Par Pond has been lowered over the past several months to reduce the effects in the event of catastrophic dam failure while assessing the condition of the dam and determining if repairs are necessary. Immobilization of Savannah River high-level wastes in SYNROC: results from performance tests

Description: Large samples (up to 15cm diameter) of SYNROC D containing simulated Savannah River (SRL) waste sludge have been prepared and performance tested. Waste loadings of 60 to 65 wt% for the SRL composite sludge have been achieved; this corresponds to a waste concentration (volumetric) loading of approximately 2.3 to 2.5 g/cm/sup 3/.
