A Stylistic Analysis of American Indian Portrait Photography in Oklahoma, 1869-1904

This thesis studies the style of Native American portrait photographs of William S. Soule (1836-1908), John K. Hillers (1834-1925), and William E. Irwin (1871-1935), who worked in Oklahoma from 1869 to 1904. Differential use of space: An analysis of the Aubrey Clovis site.

The Aubrey Clovis site is one of the oldest late-Pleistocene sites in North America, dated to ~11,550 B.P., and contains two camps with a range of lithic debitage, numerous hearths, and excellent faunal preservation. In justice to our Indian allies: The government of Texas and her Indian allies, 1836-1867.

Traditional histories of the Texas frontier overlook a crucial component: efforts to defend Texas against Indians would have been far less successful without the contributions of Indian allies.
