Pore structure and reactivity changes in hot coal gas desulfurization sorbents

Description: The primary objective of the project was the investigation of the pore structure and reactivity changes occurring in metal/metal oxide sorbents used for desulfurization of hot coal gas during sulfidation and regeneration, with particular emphasis placed on the effects of these changes on the sorptive capacity and efficiency of the sorbents. Commercially available zinc oxide sorbents were used as model solids in our experimental investigation of the sulfidation and regeneration processes.

Kinetic studies on the sulfidation of iron by sulfur bearing low-Btu gases

Description: The use of a low-Btu gas as a reducing agent for iron oxide was shown to be favorable at temperatures of 800/sup 0/C or greater. Little benefit was seen in terms of increased reduction rates at higher pressures (up to 5 atmospheres) or in varying either the H/sub 2/ concentration or CO/CO/sub 2/ ratio, within the range of a low-Btu gas. Summary of research on hydrogen production from fossil fuels conducted at NETL

Description: In this presentation we will summarize the work performed at NETL on the production of hydrogen via partial oxidation/dry reforming of methane and catalytic decomposition of hydrogen sulfide. We have determined that high pressure resulted in greater carbon formation on the reforming catalysts, lower methane and CO2 conversions, as well as a H2/CO ratio.
