Description: An interfacial viseometer was built for use in an interfacial phenomena study. Installation of a 6-in.-ID foam separation column system was completed. The dispersiondrying-sintering characteristics of six low-nitrate batches of thoria sol material were studied. The average effective porosity of the CuO pellets used for reactor helium purification was determined to be 0.0545 for H/ sub 2/ transport and 0.0526 for CO transport. Description: BS>A reinforced-concrete dual-purpose underground parking garage and personnel sheiter designed for a long-duration incident pressure of 40 psi was tested. Adsorption of Krypton and Xenon by Various Materials

Description: The adsorptive capacities of various inorganic adsorbents and activated charcoals for krypton and xenon were determined. Columbia-G activated charcoal had the highest capacity for both krypton and xenon at pressures from 0.01 to 125 mm Hg and temperaturens from 2 to 85 deg C. If a value of 1 is assigned to the capacity of this charcoal at 28 deg C for krypton, other charcoals range from 0.63 to 0.84, molecular sieves (except 4A) from 0.11 to 0.20, and some silica genls from 0.05 to 0.07. Description: Correlations were made on Zircaloy-2 Izod impact data and Charpy-V drop- weight data. AN ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE THE PERCENTAGE OF HELIUM BYPASSING THE CORE DUE TO THE REFLECTOR SEALING SYSTEM DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE HTGR

Description: The percentage of helium which will bypass the core if the reflector system shown is used is predicted. It is estimated that nominally about 0.1 to 0.2% of the total flow will bypass the core, which is not considered excessive. The most difficult parameter to determine was Z, the gap between the sealing surfaces. The method used to predict Z is presented. The effect of bowing due to a temperature gradient across the seals is discussed. (auth)

Effects of Overpressures in Group Shelters on Animals and Dummies

Description: S>Relative biological hazards of blast were studied in two types of communal air-raid shelters during Shots 1 and 8. Dogs, restrained within the shelters during detonation, were studied pathologically and clinically for blast injuries. RADIATION CREEP

Description: Several theories of metal creep and radiation damage are studied, in order to determine whether creep rates under various conditions of irradiation can be predicted theoretically. It is found that if the creep is of the recovery type, and if the diffusion coefficient for radiationinduced vacancies is large enough, creep rates may be increased within a limited temperature range. Otherwise, radiation has no effect on creep rates. (T.F.H.)

Description: e transformation studies showed that synthetic aluminas produced in the laboratory were not transformed to alpha alumina at 400 to 700' deg n the presence of nitric acid and water vapor. Amorphous aluminn produced in the pilot plant was transformed to alpha alumina.
