An Analytical Model for Predicting Cross-Country Vehicle Performance, Appendix B: Vehicle Performance in Lateral and Longitudinal Obstacles (Vegetation), Volume 1: Lateral Obstacles

Description: First part of an appendix that accompanies a study meant to develop a model for predicting the cross-country performance of military vehicles in various conditions. This volume describes a segment of tests to determine the ability of vehicles to negotiate lateral obstacles (e.g., trees, boulders, holes, mounds, etc.).

Stirling-Engine Thermodynamic Analysis: A Users Guide To SEAM1

Description: From Abstract: This report provides background and procedural information for the use of a general-purpose Stirling-engine analysis code developed at Argonne National Laboratory and available through the National Energy Software Center. Different engine configurations are easily specified, or the user may make use of provided data for existing engines, both kinematic and free piston. The code models heat transfer and fluid mechanics throughout the engine and accounts for system energy flows and… more

Sound Propagation according to Kinetic Models

Description: "Sound propagation and the initial value problem in kinetic theory are investigated. Linearized forms of certain kinetic models suggested by Gross and Jackson employed. The most general model contains three relaxation times and is capable of producing Euler, Navier-Strokes, Burnett and thirteen moments equations for smooth phenomena. A study of dispersion relations is made and some novel features are uncovered. One finds that kinetic models are unable to describe phenomena of higher than a cert… more
