Determination of thorium and uranium at the nanogram per gram level in semiconductor potting plastics by neutron activation analysis

Description: A method was developed to determine thorium and uranium in semiconductor potting plastics. The method is based on neutron activation and subsequent radiochemical separation to isolate and permit measurement of the induced /sup 233/Pa and /sup 239/Np. These plastics typically contain macro amounts of silicon, bromine and antimony and nanogram per gram amounts of thorium and uranium. Beam characterization at the Neutron Radiography Facility (NRAD)

Description: An ongoing project to characterize the neutron beams at the Neutron Radiography Reactor (NRAD) is described in this paper. The effort has consisted of computer modelling with three dimensional diffusion theory to obtain a trail spectrum, foil activation measurements, and the use of SAND-II unfolding code. Analysis of Vanadium in Milk Powder by Neutron Activation Analysis Using a Rapid Radiochemical Separation of 3.77-Minute Vanadium-52

Description: A procedure is described for the activation determination of V in powdered milk using 3.77-min V/sup 52/. The quantity of V in the sample is obtained by comparing the V/sup 52/ radioactivity found in the test sample with the V/sup 52/ radioactivity in a V comparator sample that is treated in the same manner as the test sample. Electron accelerator based system for assay of transuranic waste barrels

Description: A complete assay system for 208-liter barrels contianing transuranic wastes has been developed. The system consists of an 8-MeV commercial electron accelerator, neutron moderating cavity housing the waste barrel and containing neutron detectors, high resolution germanium gamma spectrometer, and x-ray radiography camera (both film and real time). Petrology, geochronology, and chemical evolution of the Twin Peaks Rhyolite Domes, Utah

Description: Two distinct sequences of silicic volcanism at the Twin Peaks volcanic field, Millard County, Utah, spanned periods from 2.74 +- .10 to 2.54 +- .09 m.y. and 2.43 +- .08 to 2.35 +- .08 m.y., and produced a total exposed volume of 4 km/sup 3/ of rhyolites and volcanoclastics. Samanid ceramics and neutron activation analysis

Description: Glazed pottery known as ''Afrasiyab'' and ''Nishapur'' wares (early Islamic ceramics) are generally attributed to the Samanid dynasty (819-1005).
