Conventional magnet storage rings for x-ray lithography

Description: A first pass at the design of a conventional magnet storage ring for x-ray lithogrphy is presented. Electron beam size and power specifications are given, followed by a first pass at a lattice - a 4-fold symmetric, gradient FODO cell lattice using B = 1.6 Tesla C-magnets. (LEW)

The NSLS VUV undulator: Spectral characteristics and operating experience

Description: The design and operating characteristics of the VUV undulator installed on the NSLS VUV ring are presented. Specifically, the spectral output through three circular on-axis pinholes of different diameters has been measured. Near the minimum magnetic gap (40mm), the flux into a 0.25 mrad circular aperture at the peak of the fundamental (h..nu.. = 57 eV) is approx.1 /times/ 10/sup 14/ photonssec0.1A1%BW. We find good agreement in spectral shape between these measured spectra and spectra calculate… more

Lattice and bypass design for a coherent xuv facility

Description: The design of a magnet lattice and bypass for a coherent radiation facility is discussed. The lattice is the missing magnet FODO structure first proposed by Vignola for a 6 GeV light source. This has been adapted for a 750-1300 MeV electron storage ring for use with both conventional insertion devices and a high gain FEL optimized for output at 400 A. The latter device requires that the electron bunch be deflected into a small aperture bypass, then reinjected into the ring where the perturbing … more

Study for a 6 GeV undulator based synchrotron radiation source

Description: A partial study for a 6 GeV undulator based synchrotron radiation source for production of high brightness undulator radiation, in the A region, is presented. The basic lattice adopted for the storage ring is a hybrid FODO Chasman-Green lattice, making use of gradient in the dipoles. We discuss also the e beam current limits and the injection parameters.

Real Time Closed Orbit Correction System

Description: We describe a global closed orbit feedback experiment, based upon a real time harmonic analysis of both the orbit movement and the correction magnetic fields. The feedback forces the coefficients of a few harmonics near the betatron tune to vanish, and significantly improves the global orbit stability. We present the results of the experiment in the UV ring using 4 detectors and 4 trims, in which maximum observed displacement was reduced by a factor of between 3 and 4. 4 refs., 3 figs.

Combined function lattices for a 6 GeV synchrotron light source

Description: Some characteristics of the ''undulator'' machine proposed a few months ago are discussed. The basic cell is an achromatic arc with three dipoles, having a vertical focusing gradient. The optical functions are shown and the main machine parameters are listed. This machine seems to have a resonable dynamic aperture and a good chromatic behavior but has period length of approx. 35 m. The reduction of the period length implies a reduction of the dynamic aperture. The results are summarized and the… more

Design and Factory Test of the E /E- Frascati Linear Accelerator for DAFNE

Description: The electron-positron accelerator for the DAFNE project has been built and is in test at Titan Beta in Dublin, CA. This S-Band RF linac system utilizes four 45 MW sledded klystrons and 16-3 m accelerating structures to achieve the required performance. It delivers a 4 ampere electron beam to the positron converter and accelerates the resulting positrons to 550 MeV. The converter design uses a 4.3T pulsed tapered flux compressor along with a pseudo-adiabatic tapered field to a 5 KG solenoid over… more

New method for pumping an optical klystron

Description: A novel method of operation for a transverse optical klystron (TOK) is proposed. The TOK is a device in which a relativistic electron beam produces tunable coherent radiation at short wavelengths by interacting with a powerful external laser and an undulator field. Here we show that by selecting the external laser wavelengths to be one of the harmonics in the undulator radiation spectrum, excellent output at short wavelength can be realized with significantly reduced performance requirements fo… more
