Flutter tests of B-34 fin-rudder-tab system

Description: From Summary: "Tests on the B-34 fin-rudder-tab assembly were performed in the NACA 8-foot high-speed tunnel. Two cases of tab flutter were studied. It was shown conclusively that the frequency of the original or heavy tab was too low and caused coupling with one of the lower bending frequencies. A general conclusion was made that the tab frequency should be considerably higher than the lower modes of the fin-rudder assembly because there is generally a weaker coupling between the tab and the h… more

Flutter tests on SB2U model in 16-foot tunnel

Description: Report presenting testing of the flutter characteristics of the SB2U-2 airplane. The secondary purpose of the test, which ended up being the primary purpose, was to study the behavior of the airplane just below the flutter speed. Results regarding flutter amplitude, frequencies, and energy-absorbing qualities are provided.

Flutter tests of modified SB2U model in 16-foot tunnel

Description: Report presenting testing of the flutter characteristics of the SB2U model conducted after the model had been modified to lower its flutter speed. The model was tested to destruction and the flutter speed was measured throughout.

Experimental Investigation of a Preloaded Spring-Tab Flutter Model

Description: "An experimental investigation was made of a preloaded spring-tab flutter model to determine the effects on flutter speed of aspect ratio, tab frequency, and preloaded spring constant. The rudder was mass-balanced, and the flutter mode studied was essentially one of three degrees of freedom (fin bending coupled with rudder and tab oscillations). Inasmuch as the spring was preloaded, the tab-spring system was a nonlinear one" (p. 1).
