Correction of second order chromaticity at Tevatron

Description: Correction of the second order betatron tune chromaticity is essential for operation at the working point near half integer resonance which is proposed as one of the ways to improve performance of the Tevatron. In this report the new chromaticity correction scheme with split sextupole families is described. Details of implementation and commissioning at the present working point are discussed.

Review of recent Tevatron operations

Description: Fermilab's Tevatron proton-antiproton collider continues to improve its luminosity performance at the energy frontier {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. The recent Tevatron operation will be reviewed and notable tasks leading to advancements will be highlighted. The topics to be covered include: work performed during the 14-week shutdown in 2006, improved helical orbits, automatic orbit stabilization during high-energy physics (HEP) stores, optics corrections, improvements in the quench protection system, … more

Physical characteristics of GE (General Electric) BWR (boiling-water reactor) fuel assemblies

Description: The physical characteristics of fuel assemblies manufactured by the General Electric Company for boiling-water reactors are classified and described. The classification into assembly types is based on the GE reactor product line, the Characteristics Data Base (CDB) assembly class, and the GE fuel design. Thirty production assembly types are identified. Detailed physical data are presented for each assembly type in an appendix. Descriptions of special (nonstandard) fuels are also reported. 52 re… more

Distribution of characteristics of LWR [light water reactor] spent fuel

Description: The purpose of this report is to develop a collective description of the entire spent fuel inventory in terms of various fuel properties relevant to Approved Testing Materials (ATMs) using information available from the Characteristics Data Base (CBD), which is sponsored by the US Department of Energy`s (DOE`s) Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management. A number of light-water reactor (LWR) characteristics were analyzed including assembly class representation, fuel burnup, enrichment, fue… more

A classification scheme for LWR fuel assemblies

Description: With over 100 light water nuclear reactors operating nationwide, representing designs by four primary vendors, and with reload fuel manufactured by these vendors and additional suppliers, a wide variety of fuel assembly types are in existence. At Oak Ridge National Laboratory, both the Systems Integration Program and the Characteristics Data Base project required a classification scheme for these fuels. This scheme can be applied to other areas and is expected to be of value to many Office of C… more
