Description:
The high firing rates of new and developing cannons create higher operating temperatures than projectiles experience. Higher temperatures in-bore bring the possibility of high explosive exudation from chambered shells during misfire, hang-fire, or hold-fire. The development of a finite element thermal model to predict high explosive exudation inside a hot gun tube brings an improved level of insight to existing physical test results.
