Some schemes for on-line correction of the closed orbit, dispersion and beta functions in PEP

PEP has been operated successfully under computer control. It is necessary for colliding beam operation that the errors in closed orbits, dispersion and beta functions be corrected. The schemes in the PEP control program for on-line correction of these errors are described in this paper. The orbit control tasks in the PEP control system perform the functions of data gathering, data presentation (color display, printing), calculation and setting of corrector magnets. New Particle Signals at the SSC and at an Upgraded Tevatron Collider

We have studied the production and detection of several types of new particles at the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) and at three possible upgrades of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We compare the physics potential of the SSC with that of an upgraded collider, and we discuss in depth the relative capabilities of the three Tevatron Collider upgrades. From a physics standpoint, we suggest that one of the proposed upgrades has several advantages. 34 refs., 21 figs., 5 tabs.

Inclusive charged hadron and K sup 0 production in two-photon interactions

The analogous process to quark pair production in e{sup +} e{sup {minus}} annihilation is the hard-scattering quark exchange process in {gamma}{gamma} interactions. This hard-scattering process is expected to dominate the cross section at high transverse momenta of the produced quarks. OBSERVATION OF THE {eta}{sub c} (2980) PRODUCED IN THE RADIATIVE DECAY OF THE {psi}' (3684)

In a study of {psi}'(3684) radiative decays with the Mark II detector at SPEAR, we observe the decay sequence {psi}' {yields} {gamma}{eta}{sub c}(2980), with the {eta}{sub c}(2980) decaying into several completely reconstructed hadronic modes. We obtain a mass M = 2980 ± 8 MeV / c{sup 2} and a width {Gamma} < 40 MeV / c{sup 2} (90% confidence level), and present estimates of some of the decay branching ratios.

Resonance production by two-photon interactions at SPEAR

Two-photon interactions have been studied with the SLAC-LBL Mark II magnetic detector at SPEAR. The cross section for {eta}' production by the reaction e{sup +}e{sup -} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -}{eta}' has been measured at beam energies from 2.0 GeV to 3.7 GeV. The radiative width {Lambda}{sub {gamma}{gamma}}({eta}') has been determined to be 5.8 {+-} 1.1 keV ({+-}20% systematic uncertainty).
