Proton Capture Gamma Rays From Si$Sup 28$ in the Region of the Photonuclear Giant Resonance

Description: The Livermore 90 deg inch variable-energy cyclotron was used to measure the 90 deg excitation function for the Al/sup 27/(p, gamma )Si/sup 28/ reaction. Proton energies between 5 and 13 Mev were used which gave excitation energies in Si/sup 28/ corresponding to the region of the photonuclear giant resonance. Two gamma rays were observed: gamma /sub O/, the groundstate gamma ray and gamma / sub 1/ resulting from deexcitation through the first excited state of Si/sup 28/ at 1.78 Mev. They were de… more

Method for determining the position, angle and other injection parameters of a short pulsed beam in the Brookhaven AGS

Description: As part of the effort to improve the monitoring of the injection process at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS), we have developed a beam diagnostics package which processes the signals from the plates of a pick-up electrode (PUE) located near the injection region of the AGS and provides measurements of the position and angle (with respect to the equilibrium orbit) of the injected beam at the stripping foil where the incident H/sup -/ beam is converted into protons. In additio… more

Injection of large transverse emittance EBIS beams in booster

Description: During the commissioning of EBIS beams in Booster in November 2010 and in April, May and June 2011, it was found that the transverse emittances of the EBIS beams just upstream of Booster were much larger than expected. Beam emittances of 11{pi} mm milliradians had been expected, but numbers 3 to 4 times larger were measured. Here and throughout this note the beam emittance, {pi}{epsilon}{sub 0}, is taken to be the area of the smallest ellipse that contains 95% of the beam. We call this smallest… more

Harmonic analysis of the AGS Booster imperfection

Description: The harmonic content of magnetic field imperfections in the AGS Booster has been determined through careful measurements of the required field corrections of transverse resonances. An analysis of the required correction yielded amplitude and phase information which points to possible sources of imperfections. Dipole and quadrupole imperfections, which are proportional to the field of bending magnets (B), are mainly driven by any misalignment of the magnets. Quadrupole and sextupole imperfection… more

BEFCYF And DBDT: IBM 704 Codes For Preparing Input For Bevatron Orbit Code (BOC)

Description: Two IBM-704 codes have been written which are auxiliary to the Bevatron orbit code BOC. The first, BEFCYF, interpolates among tabulated values of the median-plane magnetic flux density of the Bevatron to produce an equivalent array of values in a form appropriate to BOC. The second, DBDT, produces azimuthal derivatives of the fields produced by BEFCYF. The internal operation of BEFCYF and DBDT is described, and instructions for their execution are given.

Application Of Biometrical Genetics Techniques To Irradiated And Non- Irradiated Populations Of Corn To Provide Information On Nature Of Gene Action Involved In The Inheritance Of Quantitative Traits And In Heterosis. Final Report, 1970.

Description: The purpose of this research was to extend out quantitative genetic investigations into some of the more basic aspects of genetic variation and heterosis observed in irradiated and non- irradiated populations of corn in order to determine more precisely how genes do act and interact to produce their observed cumulative effects.
