Beam-beam effects in the Tevatron Run II

Description: Electromagnetic long-range and head-on interactions of high intensity proton and antiproton beams are significant sources of beam loss and lifetime limitations in the Tevatron Collider Run II (2001-present). We present observations of the beam-beam phenomena in the Tevatron and results of relevant beam studies. We analyze the data and various methods employed in high energy physics (HEP) operation, predict the performance for planned luminosity upgrades and discuss ways to improve it.

Cylindric electron envelope for relativistic electron cooling

Description: Electron cooling requires small angles between the electrons and the cooled particles. In other words, the electron beam has to be of a cylindrical shape in the cooling section. Single and multiple intrabeam scattering in hadron colliders

Description: Single and multiple intra-beam scattering are usually considered separately. Such separation works well for electron-positron colliders but usually yields only coarse description in the case of hadron colliders. Collective instabilities in the Tevatron Complex

Description: Although the luminosity growth for Tevatron Run II was slower than expected, steady growth of luminosity has been demonstrated during the last three years with the peak luminosity of 1.02 x 10{sup 32} cm{sup -2} s{sup -1} achieved in July 2004. Suppression of instabilities has been a valuable contributor to the luminosity growth. This report discusses the transverse instabilities in the Tevatron and Recycler.

Optics of electron beam in the Recycler

Description: Electron cooling of 8.9 GeV/c antiprotons in the Recycler ring (Fermilab) requires high current and good quality of the DC electron beam. Electron trajectories of {approx}0.2 A or higher DC electron beam have to be parallel in the cooling section, within {approx}0.2 mrad, making the beam envelope cylindrical.
