Solid state laser driver for an ICF reactor

Description: A conceptual design is presented of the main power amplifier of a multi-beamline, multi-megawatt solid state ICF reactor driver. Simultaneous achievement of useful beam quality and high average power is achieved by a proper choice of amplifier geometry. Description: This hydrogeologic modeling study has been performed as part of the regional hydrologic characterization of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Site in southeastern New Mexico. (Sulfide-oxide-silicate phase equilibria and associated fluid inclusion properties in the Salton Sea geothermal system, California)

Description: Our studies involved petrographic, fluid inclusion, geochemical and stable isotopic studies of drillcores and fluids from the Salton Sea geothermal system. Our initial studies revealed the presence of previously-unrecognized evaporitic anhydrite at depth throughout the geothermal system. PINEX (Pinhold Neutron Experiment) fluor characteristics

Description: This report will describe recent experiments to characterize four fluors: BC-400, 408, 422, 430. Each fluor sample was 0.5 cm thick commensurate with our standard Electronic Pinhole Neutron Experiment (EL-PINEX) fluors. The important results are that the neutron-gamma sensitivity ratios did not change significantly, although the absolute gamma and neutron sensitivities decreased. 6 figs., 4 tabs.

Immobilization of IFR salt wastes in mortar

Description: Portland cement-base mortars are being considered for immobilizing chloride salt wastes produced by the fuel cycles of Integral Fast Reactors (IFR). The IFR is a sodium-cooled fast reactor with metal alloy fuels. It has a close-coupled fuel cycle in which fission products are separated from the actinides in an electrochemical cell operating at 500/degree/C. [Surface studies of absorbents for the removal of SO[sub x] and NO[sub x]]

Description: During this quarter, we studied the x-ray absorption spectra of CaO and CaSO[sub 4] at high temperatures and used standard models to determine the calcium environment during coal combustion. The theoretical effort during this quarter was directed toward modeling the electronic structure of CuO supported on alumina; this is necessary for understanding the chemisorption processes for surface oxide and nitrogen oxide components of flue gas. 8 figs.

Cementing operations on Fenton Hill during FY1987, 1 October 1986-September 1987

Description: As part of repairing and sidetracking EE-2 geothermal well, a number of cementing operations were successfully carried out. These included; plugging back of EE-2 below the proposed side track site, cement behind casing at 10220-24 ft, cement behind casing at 9800-04 ft, whipstock plug, and the cementing through perforations of the 9-5/8 in. casing from 6500 ft to the surface. Specific data on each of these operations is given, and the results discussed. 1 ref., 4 figs.
