Second harmonic and sum frequency generation on dye-coated surfaces using collinear and non-collinear excitation geometries. [Rhodamine 6G monolayers on glass]

Description: Doubly resonantly enhanced sum frequency generation from rhodamine 6G monolayers adsorbed on glass substates is compared with resonantly enhanced second harmonic generation using a collinear excitation geometry. Second harmonic and sum frequency generation with a non-collinear excitation geometry is also reported where spatial filtering of the non-collinear output is shown to increase the scattered light rejection by more than 4 orders of magnitude.

Thermal expansion of epoxy-fiberglass composite specimens

Description: The thermal expansion behavior of three epoxy-fiberglass composite specimens was measured from 20 to 120/sup 0/C (70 to 250/sup 0/F) using a fused quartz push-rod dilatometer. Billets produced by vacuum impregnating layers of two types of fiberglass cloth with an epoxy resin were core-drilled to produce cylindrical specimens. These were used to study expansion perpendicular and parallel to the fiberglass layers. The dilatometer is held at a preselected temperature until steady-state is indicate… more

A Technique for Epoxy Free Winding and Assembly of COS θ Coils for Accelerator Magnets

Description: Traditional methods of magnet construction (wet winding) use molded coil subassemblies bonded together with epoxy impregnated fiberglass tape. This is a highly labor intensive process involving redundant operations for each of the four coils. The epoxy free winding technique (dry winding) eliminates the epoxy curing steps and also allows all four coils to be wound on 3 common winding mandrel, thereby reducing winding stations and handling. The tooling required for dry winding is a radical depar… more

Development of large high-voltage pressure insulators for the Princeton TFTR (Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor) flexible transmission lines

Description: Specially formulated insulator materials with improved strength and high-voltage properties were developed and used for critical components of the flexible transmission lines to the TFTR neutral beam ion sources. These critical components are plates which support central conductors as they exit the high-voltage power supply and enter the ion source enclosure. Each plate acts both as a high-voltage insulator and as a pressure barrier to the SF/sub 6/ insulating gas. The original plate was made o… more
