Tricritical behavior in the ferromagnetic superconductor ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/

Description: A new tricritical point on the phase boundary between the superconducting vortex phase and the normal paramagnetic phase of ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/ is presented. The microscopic origin of the tricritical point and the expected tricritical behavior are briefly discussed.

Magnetic relaxation in highly anisotropic systems

Description: Using the Mori formalism, a general theory is developed for the calculation of paramagnetic relaxation effects in a general crystal field doublet. For systems with extreme magnetic anisotropy, the relaxation rates show a strong angular dependence, being severely peaked in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic easy axis. Application to the RRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/ (R = rare-earth) compounds is discussed. 5 refs.

New example of superconducting walls in the ferromagnet ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/

Description: In the ferromagnetic state of ErRh/sub 4/B/sub 4/, a zero resistance is observed in the easy magnetization direction and a normal state resistance in the hard direction. These properties are characteristic of domain wall superconductivity. 7 refs., 2 figs.

High field properties of NbN ribbon conductors

Description: This paper reports the first high field measurements on ribbon conductors composed of NbN and Cu deposited onto Hastelloy ribbons. These ribbons are 5 to 8 cm long, 1/8'' wide, and have several microns of NbN, covered with several microns of Cu, deposited onto one side. Such samples have a T/sub c/ approx. 14.5 K, H/sub c2/ (2.0 K) approx. 26 T in the parallel direction and J/sub c/ (20 T, 2.0 K) up to 3 x 10/sup 4/ A/cm/sup 2/.
