Analysis of environmental factors affecting technology deployment: a case study

Description: A study was conducted for the Office of Resource Applications, US Department of Energy (DOE), to assess the potential market and possible market penetration of four electric baseload generating technologies employing coal combustion, in three selected geographic areas of the US, within the time frame between the present and the year 1998. The major focus was on quantification of environmental performance of these technologies and relation of environmental performance to environmental constraint… more

National hydroelectric power resources study. Preliminary inventory of hydropower resources. Volume 5. Southeast region

Description: In the Southeast region, the maximum physical potential for all sites exceeds 48,000 MW with an estimated average annual energy of more than 137,000 GWH. By comparison, these values represent about 9% of both the total potential capacity and hydroelectric energy estimated for the entire US. Of the total capacity estimated for the region, 11,800 MW has been installed. The remainder (36,200 MW) is the maximum which could be developed by upgrading and expanding existing projects (13,000 MW), and b… more

Production cost analysis of Euphorbia lathyris. Final report

Description: The purpose of this study is to estimate costs of production for Euphorbia lathyris (hereafter referred to as Euphorbia) in commercial-scale quantities. Selection of five US locations for analysis was based on assumed climatic and cultivation requirements. The five areas are: nonirrigated areas (Southeast Kansas and Central Oklahoma, Northeast Louisiana and Central Mississippi, Southern Illinois), and irrigated areas: (San Joaquin Valley and the Imperial Valley, California and Yuma, Arizona). Feasibility study for a low-head hydroelectric installation at Archusa Creek Dam. Final report to the Pat Harrison Waterway District

Description: The rising cost, uncertain future supply, and environmental problems associated with energy sources have resulted in serious investigation of energy sources that have not previously been considered economically and technically feasible. One such source involves low-head hydroelectric generation. The Department of Energy has funded several feasibility studies for the installation of hydroelectric generators at existing low-head dams. Such a feasibility study for the Archusa Creek Dam near Quitma… more

Regional Issue Identification and Assessment (RIIA): an analysis of the Mid-Range Projection Series C Scenario. Executive summary for Federal Region IV

Description: The Department of Energy (DOE) has hypothesized a number of alternate energy futures as part of its energy planning and analysis programs. In this report, which is part of DOE's Regional Issue Identification and Assessment (RIIA) Program, Oak Ridge National Laboratory examines how a proposed energy future called the Mid-Range Projection Series C Scenario would affect Federal Region IV (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). This scenari… more

Mid-South solar total energy: institutional analysis. Final report, May 1, 1978-December 31, 1979

Description: A comprehensive survey was undertaken to determine the current usage of energy by the Mississippi State University, considering electricity and fuel separately. A variety of individual components likely to be employed in total energy systems are then considered in detail, including: solar assisted space heating system, space cooling system design, solar electric system, flat plate solar collector system, central solar receiver, and geothermal heat pump system. Also, algorithms have been develop… more
