Validity of cubic law for fluid flow in a deformable rock fracture. Technical information report No. 23

Description: The validity of the cubic law for laminar flow of fluids through open fractures consisting of parallel planar plates has been established by others over a wide range of conditions with apertures ranging down to a minimum of 0.2 ..mu..m. The law may be given in simplified form by Q/..delta..h = C(2b)/sup 3/, where Q is the flow rate, ..delta..h is the difference in hydraulic head, C is a constant that depends on the flow geometry and fluid properties, and 2b is the fracture aperture. The validit… more

Subsurface investigations at the Roosevelt KGRA, Utah. Final report

Description: An investigation of the geothermal reservoir in the Roosevelt Hot Springs Known Geothermal Resource Area in Utah was carried out. The objective of this effort was to develop predictions for well production capacities, based on data taken during field tests and through use of a computer model. In turn, the production information could then be used in design optimization and economic analyses for development of the resource under study. Flow tests of a geothermal well, Utah State 14-2, were condu… more

Development and utilization of a two-dimensional model of transient fluid flow in a generic repository (OGRE)

Description: An existing time-dependent numerical model (OGRE) has been modified to examine the time frames associated with repressuring the formation rocks surrounding a generic nuclear waste repository following the operational period when wastes are being stored. The model is two-dimensional in the vertical plane, and assumes that the entire regime is saturated, but the repository is at one atmosphere during the operational period. For the physical and geometric parameters assumed, the results of a simul… more
