New Low Mass Isotopes of Emanation (Element 86)

Description: Among the spallation products obtained from the 350-Mev proton bombardment of Th{sup 232} they have identified two gaseous alpha-emitters which apparently do not decay into any presently known alpha-decay chains. The half-lives observed for the decay of the alpha-activities are 23 minutes and 2.1 hours. These half-lives may be principally determined by an unknown amount of orbital electron capture. Alpha-Decay in Isotopes of Atomic Number Less Than 83

Description: Some time ago we started work in an attempt to observe alpha-particle decay in isotopes of atomic number less than 83. In the first experiments, thin targets of gold leaf were bombarded with 190-Mev deuterons in the 184-inch cyclotron. Two alpha-decay periods were observed in these targets; one of 0.7 minutes half-life and another of 4.3 minutes half-life. The alpha-particle energies were 5.7 and 5.2 Mev, respectively. Autoionization of Be-like ions following double electron capture in C sup 4+ , O sup 6+ and Ne sup 8+ ions

Description: This paper describes electron emission following the autoionization of doubly excited states in Be-like ions. The Be-like Auger states are produced by two electron capture in slow C{sup 4+}, O{sup 6+} and Ne{sup 8+} ions. Coincidence Measurements of Electron Capture and Loss in Ion-Atom Collisions

Description: Collisions between fast, fully stripped projectiles and atomic targets predominantly result in target electrons being ejected to the continuum. X-Ray Emission Cross Sections following Charge Exchange by Multiply-Charged Ions of Astrophysical Interest

Description: State selective nl-electron capture cross sections are presented for highly charged ions with Z = 6-10 colliding with atoms and molecules. The energy range investigated was from 1 eV/amu (v = 0.006 a.u.) to 100 keV/amu (v =2.0 a.u.). The energy dependence of the l-level populations is investigated. Electron capture from occupied surface states within the band gap of LiF(100)

Description: Measurements of scattered neutral fractions for Na, K, and Cs multicharged ions grazingly incident on Li(100) as function of projectile velocity suggest that near resonant processes are active in the final neutral formation, involving occupied surface states within the band gap of the alkali halide target. Metastable Enhancement of C{sup +} and O{sup +} Capture Reactions. Final Technical Report, June 1987--September 1990

Description: Single electron capture by 10- to 500-eV singly charged C and O ions traversing targets of H{sub 2} and H was studied with emphasis on comparing cross sections for metastable species with those for the ground state. L-shell resonant transfer and excitation for NE-like niobium ions

Description: Projectile excitation and charge transfer (capture) can occur simultaneously in a single encounter with a target atom through the electron-electron interaction between a projectile electron and a weakly bound target electron.
