A High-resolution TOF Detector - A Possible Way to Compete with a RICH Detector

Description: Using two identical 64-pixel Burle/Photonis MCP-PMTs to provide start and stop signals, they have achieved a timing resolution of {sigma}{sub Single{_}detector} {approx} 7.2 ps for N{sub pe} {approx} 50 photoelectrons (N{sub pe}) with a laser diode providing a 1 mm spot on the MCP window. A 30 ps Timing Resolution for Single Photons with Multi-pixel Burle MCP-PMT

Description: We have achieved {approx}30 psec single-photoelectron and {approx}12ps for multi-photoelectron timing resolution with a new 64 pixel Burle MCP-PMT with 10 micron microchannel holes. We have also demonstrated that this detector works in a magnetic field of 15kG, and achieved a single-photoelectron timing resolution of better than 60 psec. Description: There is a considerable interest to develop new time-of-flight detectors using, for example, micro-channel-plate photodetectors (MCP-PMTs). Why Pi And Mrad

Description: Today it is generally accepted in the ion source and accelerator communities to communicate emittance data with units of {pi} mm mrad or {pi} cm mrad. The emittance of a beam with 2 cm diameter or width and an opening angle of 200 mrad then is written as E=100 {pi} cm mrad. Performance of 2nd Generation BaBar Resistive Plate Chambers

Description: The BaBar detector has operated nearly 200 Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs), constructed as part of an upgrade of the forward endcap muon detector, for the past two years. The RPCs experience widely different background and luminosity-driven singles rates (0.01-10 Hz/cm{sup 2}) depending on position within the endcap. Some regions have integrated over 0.3 C/cm{sup 2}.
