The Chelate Process: [Part] 5. Investigation in Horizontal Extractors

Description: The recovery of plutonium has been demonstrated in a laboratory countercurrent horizontal extractor using the TTA process. Using three extractive stages and two washing stages in each step, a recovery of 91 percent has been obtained in the chelation step and a recovery of 99.9+ percent in the de-chelation step. With five extractive stages, recoveries of 94-98 percent have been found for the chelation step.

Dynamics of a turbojet engine considered as a quasi-static system

Description: From Summary: "A determination of the dynamic characteristics of a typical turbojet engine with a centrifugal compressor, a sonic-flow turbine-nozzle diaphragm, and fixed area exhaust nozzle is presented. A generalized equation for transient behavior of the engine was developed; this equation was then verified by calculations using compressor and turbine performance charts extrapolated from equilibrium operating data and by experimental data obtained from an engine operated under transients in … more

Urine Analysis for Tritium Oxide

Description: This report analyzes a procedure based on the production of acetylene from the active water, with subsequent measurement of the ionization caused by the tritium beta particle. This eliminates the troublesome absorption on the chamber walls when hydrogen is used, and provides a rapid method for the preparation of the urine samples.

High-Speed Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Lateral Stability Characteristics of a 0.10-Scale Model of the Grumman XF9F-2 Airplane, TED No. NACA DE 301

Description: An investigation was made in the Langley high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the high-speed lateral and directional stability characteristics of a 0.10-scale model of the Grumman XF9F-2 airplane in the Mach number range from 0.40 to 0.85. The results indicate that static lateral and directional stability is present throughout the Mach number range investigated although in the Mach number range from 0.75 to 0.85 there is an appreciable decrease in rolling moment due to sideslip. The Path of Carbon in Photosynthesis VII Respiration andPhotosynthesis

Description: The relationship of respiration to photosynthesis in barley seedling leaves and the algae, Chlorella and Scenedesmus, has been investigated using radioactive carbon dioxide and the techniques of paper chromatography and radioautography. The plants are allowed to photosynthesize normally for thirty seconds in c{sup 14}O{sub 2} after which they are allowed to respire in air or helium in the light or dark. Respiration of photosynthetic intermediates as evidenced by the appearance of labeled glutom… more

Investigation of Low-Speed Aileron Control Characteristics at a Reynolds Number of 6,800,000 of a Wing With Leading Edge Swept Back 42 Degrees With and Without High-Lift Devices

Description: Report presenting an investigation at a Reynolds number of 6,800,000 to determine the low-speed lateral control characteristics of a 20-percent-chord half-span outboard aileron on a wing with 42 degrees of sweepback at the leading edge. The lateral control, aileron hinge-moment, aileron load, and balance-chamber-pressure characteristics were determined for the wing with and without high-lift and stall-control devices for an angle-of-attack range from -4 degrees through the stall.
